Lucy – Demandware

Steve Susina • May 24, 2013

Challenge

Faced with an upgrade now or lose support decision, Lucy Activewear chose to move its existing ecommerce site to Demandware. At the same time, Lucy also embarked on a project to replace its order management system. This project – which did not include a redesign effort – posed several challenges due to multiple project managers (on the platform project and the OMS project), an extremely tight timeframe, the need for adding non-standard functionality, and a change in the strategic direction of both projects mid-stream.

Solution

lyonscg played a key role in the implementation of Demandware at Lucy and developed special ‘mark down by color’ functionality that wasn’t standard at the time in Demandware. This key function allowed Lucy to markdown individual items based on color – for example, keeping the black and white versions of a tank top at regular price but marking down only the pink ones. The lyonscg team set up business rules so if Lucy had a style that was full price and one or two colors on sale, the system automatically would split it up into two style numbers, allowing them to merchandise full price colors in full price categories and put sales colors in the sale and markdown categories.
