4 Skills to Land the eCommerce Technology Job of Your Dreams

Mary Clare Riordan • November 19, 2014

There’s more to eCommerce technology jobs than having just the high tech skills to complete the typical roles such as Technical Architect, Project Manager, or Developer. Your success at a new job and also the probability of you liking your new job come from more than just degrees and certifications. Often times, recruiters are looking to know more about your soft skills than one would think. I consulted with LYONSCG’s Director of Talent Acquisition, Christine Bedalow, to find out what we look for from eCommerce technology job seekers in order for them to be successful at LYONSCG. She gave me the following list:

Customer centric focus. Having a customer focused mindset when working with clients enables you to provide the best quality of product and keep the customer happy. Understanding the customer’s wants and needs keeps projects running smoothly.

Flexibility. Things change all the time and eCommerce technology work can be unpredictable. Being able to roll with the flow and not getting upset with surprises is very important.

Critical thinking skills. As problems arise, a quality eCommerce technology employee will have good critical thinking skills to reason through the problem, identify the issues, and come up with potential solutions before seeking outside help.

Communication skills. Employees need to be clear, concise, and able to deliver messages with self-confidence to other members of their team.
